Definitions:
"in press" - as soon as the publication has been submitted to the editor/publisher;
"forthcoming" - when there is a firm agreement with a publisher and writing is in progress;
"in preparation": when there is a firm plan (=I am working on the item) but not yet a firm agreement with a publisher.
